Scientific context
Bassoon is a 420 kDa protein that is a localized at the presynaptic nerve terminals and is believed to play a role in the structural and functional organization of the synaptic vesicle cycle. Bassoon is predicted to contain two double-zinc fingers, three coiled-coil regions, and two polyglutamine domains. The polyglutamine domains in the C-terminus are of interest, since it is known that for some human proteins, such as Huntington, abnormal amplification of this region can cause late-onset neurodegeneration. Bassoon is concentrated at sites opposite to postsynaptic densities in synaptic terminals and in cultured neurons, it is found to co-localize with GABA (A) and glutamate (GluR1) receptors (1).

Polyclonals can be used for Western blot, immunohistochemistry on frozen slices or parrafin fixed tissues. The advantage is that there are more epitopes available in a polyclonal antiserum to detect the proteins than in monoclonal sera. Rabbits are used for polyclonal antibody production by StressMark antibodies. Rabbit antibodies are very stable and can be stored for several days at room temperature. StressMark antibodies adds sodium azide and glycerol to enhance the stability of the rabbit polyclonal antibodies. A PerCP dye is also available (PerCP-Cy5.5, also written Cy5.5-PerCP). PerCP is not suited for the high-powered lasing (>150mW) applications, such as on a MoFlo, due to it photobleaching (features/ qualities/ traits). PerCP conjugates can only be received/be gotten from the Becton Dickinson/Pharmingen group of companies or from StressMark antibodies.
